An Englishman, Harry Brearley, is generally acknowledged to be the pioneer who developed stainless steels for commercial use.
Stainless steel can be defined as a group of corrosion resistant grades of steel containing a minimum 10% chromium and in which varying amounts of nickel, molybdenum, titanium, niobium as well as other elements may be present.
Stainless Steel is available in different alloys with varying properties. The most commonly used types used for our products are 300 series alloys.
304 grade is the most commonly used for our products but some items which are susceptible to corrosion, beach showers for example, are supplied in 316 grade stainless steel.
430 grade is used for some framework fabrication.
The thickness and weight of the steel is described as the gauge: the lower the gauge number the thicker the steel. We use gauges between 12 and 20 depending on the product.
